A few years ago, I volunteered on a mission trip to Rosarito, Mexico where we helped nearly 30-40 children of all ages with extractions, oral hygiene education and fillings (with what could be saved). These children had no basic knowledge on how to properly brush their teeth let alone why they needed to brush.
Most of the children had rampant decay. These children helped shaped my overall mission as a dental hygienist. One thing I realized is these children had no choice but to focus on simply surviving. Needless to say, I walked away from that trip giving away all of my clothes I came with, every dollar I had on me & the doctor I was fortunate enough to work with bought the entire local grocery store to feed all of the children for at least a few weeks.
I’ll never forget this trip.
With that said, I want to continue my mission by sharing tips that can help all children and parents prevent decay.
New parents often ask, “When should my child first see a dentist?” It’s never too early to start. The American Association of Pediatric Dentists recommends that parents establish a dental home for their child by their first tooth or first birthday.
Baby teeth are so important because of their vital role of saving space for a future child’s permanent teeth. They stay in a child’s mouth for 8-10 years. Furthermore, they also affect their chewing, speaking and even smiling. Baby teeth can also indicate a child’s overall quality of health. Untreated tooth decay can cause oral infections that enter the bloodstream and lead to other serious health problems, while also allowing bacteria to spread to new adult teeth.
Let’s spread the importance of oral health. Want more tips? Comment below what other topics you’d like to learn more about.

Hey girl/hey boy heyyyyyy. ππ½
My name is Jasmine Capra. I am a RDH from California. βοΈ π
I have several new faces that have joined my platform recently. So I felt compelled to share a little but about myself.
π΄ I was born and raised in a suburban area just outside of Los Angeles by my two lovely parents!
π¨π©π§π¦ My dad is Mexican and well my mother is a mixture of European & American. I have 1 full sister & 2 half brothers. In addition to 3 awesome stepsisters!
π¦· I graduated Oxnard Dental Hygiene in May of 2018. I currently work for two incredible general dentist. I admittedly overworked the passed two years working 5 sometimes 6 days a week and I recently pushed myself to cut down to 4 days!!! And I couldn’t be happier. π₯°
π¨π½βοΈ My father was a dental hygienist for a number of years until he decided to go back a pursue his dream of becoming a Dentist.
π π¨π»π¦° I met my lover for life at @traderjoes in February 2013. And suckered him into marrying me in October 2015. My husband helps run @justflossit smoothly amd does all of the techy stuff I don’t understand. π
π I began JustFlossit in October of 2018 just a few months after graduating. Which has now expanded to @tiktok, @youtube, and most recently my podcast Justflossit! I truly love sharing my authentic experience as a student and current daily life as a hygienist (as raw as I possibly can) and of course motivating every single one of you to chase your dreams regardless of your choice of profession. Within the last couple years I was fortunate enough to work with dream companies like @wearfigs, Philips Sonicare, @getcocofloss, @colgate, @sephora and @walmart.
Through your support and β€οΈ we have been able to grow and love the little things in life.
In addition to the long list of words ^ π, I love Tapatio hot sauce, I make Paul chapped by being indecisive about where to eat most of the time, I have two pups- Theodore and Penelope. I was NOT popular in high school. I used to rarely floss before I found the importance. I have issues with just relaxing. I always feel the need to grind.
Please share where you/ my friends are from?!! Tell me a lil about yourself
